The 2016 Canadian Hypertension Education Program Recommendations

The Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHEP) is a knowledge translation program targeting primary care practitioners, providing annually updated recommendations and clinical practice guidelines to detect, treat and control hypertension.

Recommendations for the use of CCBs

CCBs are one of the recommended first-line monotherapy (alternatives: a thiazide diuretic, a beta-blocker [in patients younger than 60 years]; an ACE inhibitor [in nonblack patients]; or an ARB)1.
CCBs are recommended options for combination therapy in first or later line therapy1.
